History


Association of parents of children with injured hearing was established on 23rd February 1992 in the hall of The Cultural center of deaf. There were a lot of mothers and fathers from Sofia and the country, representatives of Education, Cultural and Health service ministries and the Union of deaf people.

The first management council was constituted from five people: Veneta Vasileva – president, Stoian Nikolov – under president, Maria Mihailova – secretary and members – Venelin Ivanov and Emilia Nankova.

In the first years everything we were doing was for the first time. We were not walking in the beaten track and the lack of knowledge was compensated with enthusiasm and willingness for work. The circle of people understanding our problems was growing. Contacts with public institutions and other organizations were created. We were seeking for resources.

In 1993 Bulgaria was accepted for associated member and was invited to participate in the annual meetings of FEPEDA.



European Federation of the parents of children with injured hearing – FEPEDA
FEPEDA is established in 1990 in Luxemburg. The aim of the organization is to support the development of the national associations of the parents of children with injured hearing. From 1990 FEPEDA is organizing family meetings where parents from Europe exchange experience in different spheres of general interest: education, development of technologies, social service and legislation.
 
There are 29 Europe countries members of FEPEDA. Since its establishment there have been held meetings in the following countries: 1990 – in Luxemburg, 1991 – Lisbon /Portugal/, 1992 – Metz /France/, 1993 – Madrid / Spain/, 1994 – Southampton / Great Britain/, 1995 – Prague / Czech Republic/, 1996 - Vienna /Austria/, 1997 – Naples /Italy/, 2000 – Bergisch – Gladbach / Germany/, 2002 – Burgos / Spain/. Famous specialists in different spheres were invited as lectures at the conferences.
 
Parallel to the meetings of the parents are hold such for children and youth from Europe. The youth participate in the discussions on different themes, in sport and cultural undertakings.

 
Bulgaria is associated member of FEPEDA from July 1993. The member’s fee for associated members is 10 euro per year.

FEPEDA designed European Charter for collaboration between parents and specialists in the sphere of the education of children with injured hearing.

In the summer of 2002 as a part of the project SIGNAEUROPA a meeting of young people with injured hearing was organized in Burgos, Spain. The project realized within the limits of program “Youth”. Organizations from Italy, Bulgaria, Estonia, Spain and Russia participated in it.

The aim of the project was introducing to the problems of the young people with injured hearing in other European countries. Different activities were organized: work in groups, creating of posters, songs, dances, cooking of traditional meals, sport and entertainment games, visits and excursions to Onna and Frias. The project ended with very good results. The well-selected activities extended the horizon of the participants in the meeting, raised their spirits for well done work, they created attitude of sympathy and respect to the countries which were participating.



    





Recognition of ARDUS for National represented nongovernmental organization


With a decision Ή 1149/17.10.1996 of Council of Ministry, our association was recognized for National represented nongovernmental organization.

In a result of the new got statute ARDUS became a member of the National council for a rehabilitation and social integration. It received right for subsidy from the state budget.
